Hair loss ifm. chemotherapy

Virtually everyone who undergoes a course of treatment with chemotherapy experiences a temporary hair loss. After chemotherapy, the hair grows out again - at least in 99% of cases.

Radiation therapy only causes hair loss in the area of the body where you are treated. Radiation therapy usually causes the hair not to grow out again after completing treatment because the hair follicles are destroyed during treatment.

Our experience says the hair begins to fall off after other chemotherapy. It is very individual how fast the hair falls off. Most people experience it as a powerful felling. But it's not like you lose all your hair from one day to the next.

Many would like to take control of their hair loss themselves, and choose to cut it briefly when they experience the powerful felling. We recommend never to crown themselves. There must be a minimum of 1-1.5 cm of hair on the head, so as not to irritate the hair follicles unnecessarily.

Good advice on hair loss and chemotherapy

The wig can be one time out

Many chemo patients have described the wig as a time-out in their course of treatment. One wig is an offer and an option to choose. The wig can be an opportunity to get a breather from the disease and treatment when, for example, you move in the public space so that you do not look sick. There are no right or wrong choices; In turn, there are many options. And we would like to show you here on the site.

I had no doubt that I would have a wig so I could feel like myself despite the disease and the chemo. With the wig I could move into the outside world without people looking at me or looking at me with a glance of pity. I needed I didn't look sick. I needed to feel beautiful and like myself, and it helped the wig.

Get the wig with home the same day

Since the hair loss is temporary and is due to chemotherapy, we usually work with standard wigs. This means that the wig is already manufactured and in stock so you can quickly get your new hair.

For your wig testing, the hairdresser will typically talk to you about what wishes you have in terms of color, hairstyle and needs. You can also look in our Wig catalogs in advance, and find some inspiration and bring along. From your conversation, the hairdresser will find some different wigs that you can try. Together we find the wig that is the right one for you. We have a large wig selection, so for the most part it is possible to get the wig back home on the same day if you wish. Should we not have your size or color, we order it home for you.

Once you have chosen your wig, we cut it to match the hairstyle you want. This is typically about the length of the forehead, the barters and the neck. If there are other adjustments to make, we make them while sitting in the chair.

If you are so far in your course of treatment that your own hair has started to trap a lot, we can help cut your own hair. We never cut your hair all the way down. It must be a minimum of 1-1.5 cm long, so as not to bother the scalp further.

Wig in fiber hair, real hair or a mixture?

There are many benefits associated with choosing a wig in fiber hair. These wigs are easier to put because they are washed in cold won, and therefore the hairstyle does not change after you wash your wig. If you choose a short hairstyle, we would recommend a wig in fiber hair because it is far easier to handle. There are many prejudices about wigs in fiber hair, but today it is often not possible to see the difference between fiber hair and real hair. The quality is very high. Fiber hair today can also be heat resistant, ie. That a wig made of heat -resistant fiber can withstand up to 150 degrees. A wig in fiber hair looks no less lifelike than a wig in real hair. However, there is the disadvantage that fiber hair paddles do not withstand heat. Be careful with the oven and never use your blow dryer or your flat iron in an artificial fiber wig.

Real hair duties can be an advantage if you have long or medium hair. When the hair is long, it runs against the shoulders and back, and this friction causes a wig in fiber hair to always wear very quickly. The same thing does not happen with a real hair paryk. The durability is therefore longer. The advantages of a wig in real hair are also that you can use styling products and heat as you usually do.

We also have a Platinum series which is a blend of real hair and heat-resistant fiber hair. It allows it to be styled just like a real hair wig.

Grants for wig

When you are in chemotherapy, you get a supplement to either wig or headgear as they are considered a treatment tool to compensate for the side effects after your treatment. In chemotherapy, the hair loss is temporarily and the grant is usually paid out once.

In 2025, the subsidy for wig is DKK 4,336 incl. VAT and the subsidy for headgear are DKK 1,638 incl. VAT. If you exceed the amount, simply pay the difference yourself. You can always choose where you want to use your subsidy, you are not bound by the hospital's supplier listings.

Care of your wig and night's sleep

Our hairdresser always reviews the care and maintenance of your new hair when you have chosen the wig. You get a care guide with
home and you will need a set of three special products for wig as well as a wig stand. All of this talks the hairdresser with you about the first time you are here. The hairdresser will also review how to take the wig on and off.

We recommend NOTthat you sleep with your wig on. The wear and friction of special artificial fiber wigs damage both hair and bottom in the wig. We recommend that you use the wig rack you get from us to put your wig on when you are not using it. If you freeze on your head, you may want to use a Night hat in bamboo or soft milk fiber at night.

Often asked questions

Hair loss is always dependent on the medical treatment you get. The treatments have become more individual and it varies greatly which dose and combination each sheep and therefore it can be difficult to predict something in general.

However, experience says that it is often after other chemotherapy that the hair loss is increasing. Once the hair loss has started, it goes relatively strong and you may experience losing your hair over a very short time, usually a 3-5 days. In others, it goes more gradually.

Even if you don't lose your hair, you may find it becoming more porous, thin and dry. Be sure to add lots of moisture and care to hair and scalp and use mild, perfume -free products.

Chemotherapy affects the cells of the hair. Many people say that they feel a "molding" and a little itching on the scalp and that they get a sense of a sore scalp. This is because hair growth stops and the hair "dries" out in the hair follicle. The nerve centers we have on the scalp are also affected, and therefore you can get the feeling that the hair roots hurt. It is a temporary condition that disappears again. You can relieve the discomfort by lubricating the scalp with cooling cream, such as Aloe Vera.

You can also give yourself a light scalp massage when in a shower. It also improves the blood supply to your scalp.

For many, it works well to "take power" over the hair loss and cut the hair off when it starts to trap. If you have long hair, you can try to gradually cut it shorter. Hair loss is a very visible side effect of medical treatment and therefore for many it is a major strain.

If you know that the hair loss is inevitable, it may be a good idea to relate to the options available to deal with hair loss. It can be a big challenge to wait for the hair to start falling by itself. Many people experience it as a relief to make a short process, but there are no right and wrong solutions.

However, we will NEVER Recommend that you crown yourself as it annoys the hair follicles further. At least 1-1.5 cm of hair should be left on the head.

In some, the hair can start to grow out again in the last part of the treatment, but usually the hair first starts to grow out again approx. 1 month after treatment is completed.

You may find that the new hair gets a different color and structure. The first hairs can be a little crushed and curly. Many call them "chemo croows". The first hair can also be a little thinner and finer than you are used to. It usually changes when the hair regains its strength and normal growth cycle. The hair grows approx. 1 cm a month.

Brying and rocker hair does not have the same growth cycle as hair on your head and therefore you do not lose your hair here as quickly. Some do not lose them at all. For example, each rocker hair has its own growth cycle, so they usually do not fall off at once. However, it is normal for you to experience the thinning of hair growth on both brows and lashes. It is again very individual and depends entirely on what treatment you get.

Thinning of brows and lashes usually occurs later in the course of treatment, and just as with the hair on the head, both brows and lashes usually come back again.

There are good opportunities to use make-up to draw up brows and lashes so that the lack of hair growth is not seen so clearly. Some use loose eyelashes and tilt extensions with good results, but be aware that lashes must be sufficient if you want to use that solution. If you want to use mascara and only have some lashes left, it is a good idea to use nickel -free mascara so that it irritates the eyes as little as possible. Semi-permanent tattoo of brows and lash line should you only consider when your treatment is over.

The best time is where you feel the most ready. Many people find peace in the fact that the decision on new hair is made and that wig and/or scarf is ready for use. Wigs and scarves are available today in a huge selection that you can choose from.

You can try the wig while you still have your own hair. The vast majority do, but it may mean a little for the fit. It may be a good idea to wait until the hair has started to fall off if you can, but it is not necessary. Many people choose to try and select their new hair, and get it set aside and make the final decision when the hair has fallen off.

One option is also to choose your new hair and at the same time get help cutting off the last hair. That way you get your new hair while for some time getting used to your own hair not there.

In most cases, you get your wig right away. The wigs are made so that they are as finished as possible, which is why it is about choosing the hairstyle, color and size and cutting the new hair if needed. Be aware that it is necessary to Book time for wig testing.

If you are very bothered by itching on the scalp, it may be due to heat and sweat problems. It may also be due to waste from medical treatment. Up to 80% of the body's heat is excreted from the ice and you typically sweat under your headgear - not through it. A good advice is to apply a sweat -transporting and Cooling bamboo hat Under the wig. Alternatively, we have some really good products from La Biosthetique and several of our customers have been successful with them. Read if necessary. Pia's account of painful hair loss. chemo.

The wig must always fit. Today they are available in sizes from XS to XL. It is also possible to use the wig with a special skin -friendly double -sided tape if you need it to be extra tight in some situations.

Some wigs also have non -slip surfaces sewn into the bottom, which gives you extra comfort and safety. In addition, in many wigs you can adjust the circumference of the wig using a single buckle in the neck of the wig.
