I Have Only Positive Things to Say About Wearing a Wig
I am so happy with my wig solution, which can stay securely in place 24/7. That way, I don’t have to think about the fact that I’m wearing a wig. It feels just like having my own hair. I sleep and shower with my hair, and I don’t have to place it on a chair with my clothes when I go to bed at night. That feels good. In that way, it is part of me and my identity. Every day I am reminded of the late effects of cancer, including hearing loss, memory loss, concentration difficulties, and that I am not like everyone else.
But because I have hair, which is such a visible thing, I don’t have to think as much about that part. It gives me freedom on every level.

I am not embarrassed to wear a wig, and I’m happy to talk about it, even with people I don’t know very well. Of course, I’m incredibly grateful that you can’t tell it’s a wig, but it’s not a secret. There is a great sense of freedom in that as well.
People are surprised—positively surprised. When I get close to people, I end up telling them. Many people say it looks so real. Sometimes they even ask if they can touch my hair. I have no problem with that.
And, by the way, I can also decide for myself when I want to be grey-haired. There are pros and cons to everything.
