1969
Henning Toftild Opens His Own Salon
In January 1969, Henning Toftild took over a hair salon on Vestbro in the heart of Aalborg. Here, he worked his scissors and created beautiful hairstyles for the city’s residents. He was so passionate about his craft that he competed in championships all over the world, achieving impressive results. The name Toftild quickly became well-known within the hairdressing industry.
1979
Toftild Expands with Wigs and Toupees
Henning’s passion for cutting hair led him to think about those who did not have hair themselves. He felt a strong desire to help them regain their hair. After several years of research and numerous training courses, the doors to "Toftild Toupee and Wig Atelier" opened on November 22, 1979. Gradually, bald heads were transformed.
At the same time, he continued running Toftild Hair Salon. Both businesses were located at Budolfi Square in the heart of Aalborg, each in its own premises.
1989
Claus Toftild Becomes a Wig and Toupee Stylist
Claus Toftild qualified as a hairdresser in 1986, after which he traveled to places including the Faroe Islands and Germany to work. He spent one and a half years with the German company Bergmann, where he learned everything about wigs and toupees.
After returning home, he first worked at Toftild Hair Salon. In 1989, he transitioned to Toftild Toupee and Wig Atelier, where he has worked ever since.
1998
Hair for Life by Toftild® Is Launched
Hair for Life by Toftild® is our own design of individually crafted wigs, toupees, and hairpieces that can remain permanently attached for a period of time.
1998 was also the year when the first municipal subsidy for the hair system became a reality. Hair for Life by Toftild® was also the first personal aid to be recognized by the municipal grant system as a subscription-based solution.
Finally, 1998 was also the year when Toftild Hair Salon closed, as Toftild Toupee and Wig Atelier truly began to grow rapidly.
2002
Generational Change
In 2002, Claus and Lise Toftild took over the operation of Toftild Toupee and Wig Atelier, and the company changed its name to Toftild Alternative Hair. Henning and Ulla continued to be present in the store for a period after the transition.
2013
Toftild Opens in Aarhus
In 2013, Toftild opened its first branch outside Aalborg in Central Jutland, in Aarhus. Initially in rented premises in central Aarhus, and in 2019 Toftild moved into its own newly renovated premises in the Latin Quarter of Aarhus C. The location had housed a large wig store for the previous 40 years. Wigs and alternative hair therefore remain synonymous with the address Borggade 7, now with Toftild’s name on the façade. Today, you will meet four Toftild team members in Aarhus.
2015
"Love is in The Hair®" Is Established
A significant part of Toftild’s DNA is our hair donation project “Love is in The Hair®,” which Lise and Claus Toftild started in 2015. The hair donations and the management of care, the hair itself, and all practical aspects quickly became a cause close to the company’s heart and are now a major part of Toftild’s daily work.
With the project “Love is in The Hair®,” we at Toftild want to give back to the many people who form the foundation of our business. In addition to using the donated hair, Toftild donates the value of the hair to charitable causes. Over the years, this has amounted to DKK 800,000 donated to Knæk Cancer.
2019
Toftild Opens in Copenhagen
Toftild took the step to Zealand in 2018 after a long-standing retailer and partner expressed the desire to sell their business. In 2019, Toftild opened its own premises at Frederiksberg Allé 50. A large part of Toftild’s customers come from Zealand, and we continue to support them through a strong and loyal network of retailers. Customers who prefer to visit Toftild directly have, since 2019, had the opportunity to meet three Toftild team members at our Frederiksberg Allé location.
