Myth Debunked: Wigs Are Not Just for Cancer Patients
Wigs are often associated with cancer patients, but at an inspiring event hosted by Aalborg Hairdressers’ Guild, Lise Toftild quickly debunked that myth – in fact, cancer patients make up only a small percentage of those who wear wigs. Most people choose a wig for other reasons, such as alopecia, general hair loss, or temporary hair loss due to surgical scars or hair accidents.
Aja, an influencer who collaborates with Toftild Alternative Hair, was invited to the event to share her personal story. She has alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes partial or complete hair loss.
When the Bald Patches Move – Would You Like to See My Map?
For Aja, her alopecia began as a small bald patch in her fringe that slowly grew larger. Over time, the patches appeared elsewhere: “It kept moving around like a map in constant motion, and that’s how it has been ever since.”
Today, living with alopecia is fortunately not something Aja ‘suffers’ from. She has found a unique way to live with hair loss through turbans and wigs – both human hair wigs and synthetic wigs.
