Can you receive a subsidy for a wig?
Yes, you can. You may apply for a medical voucher from your municipality if you have received a diagnosis from a medical specialist. Aarhus Municipality states the following regarding subsidies for wigs: “You may receive support for a wig or toupee if you have permanent, disfiguring baldness as a result of illness, surgery, or accident.”

Wig for cancer treatment
If you are undergoing cancer treatment or chemotherapy, the hospital can grant you a subsidy for either a wig or headwear. The hospital only grants support for one of these options. In the Central Denmark Region, you must pay the amount upfront and then submit your receipt to the region to receive reimbursement. In 2023, the subsidy for a wig is DKK 4,033 (approx. €540 / $590), and the subsidy for headwear is DKK 1,523 (approx. €205 / $225). If you purchase a wig or headwear that costs more than the subsidy, you pay the difference yourself. Read more about how wig or headwear subsidies work in the Central Denmark Region.

If you are a cancer patient, you can book a free consultation called “Wig for Chemotherapy”. We allocate 90 minutes for your appointment in a private consultation room. Together with the stylist, you will find wigs to try on. If the wig is in stock, you can take it home the same day.
If you are new to wigs, we also offer a free email consultation, where Lise Toftild will assess the right solution for you. All you need to do is fill out the form below and briefly describe your hair loss and whether you have been seen by a doctor or dermatologist. Please attach photos of your hair loss so Lise has a basis for her evaluation. The photos will be deleted after the assessment. If you prefer an in-person consultation, the price is DKK 350 (approx. €47 / $51). During this session, the stylist will present the options Lise has selected, and you can decide whether it’s right for you.
