The best time is when you feel ready. Some find peace of mind in making the decision about new hair early and having their wig and/or scarf ready to use. It is possible to try on a wig while you still have your own hair. Most people do, but it can affect the fit if you have thick hair.
It may be beneficial to wait until your hair starts to fall out (if you are able to wait), but it is not necessary. At Toftild, many choose to try on a wig, select their new hair and have it set aside, making the final decision once the hair loss begins.
It is also possible to choose your new hair and receive help cutting off the remaining hair at the same time. This way, you leave with your new hair while adjusting to the fact that your own hair is no longer there.
We are often asked: When will my hair fall out? Hair loss always depends on the medical treatment you receive. It varies according to dosage, frequency and combination of medication, which makes it difficult to predict hair loss in general.
However, our experience shows that hair loss typically increases after the second chemotherapy treatment. Once hair loss begins, it usually progresses quickly – and you may experience losing your hair within 3–5 days. For some, the hair loss happens more gradually.
If you do not lose your hair, you may notice it becoming drier, more porous and thinner. In this case, we recommend adding plenty of moisture and care to both hair and scalp. Use mild, fragrance-free products.
Generally, you can receive your wig on the same day you visit us. We carry a wide selection of wigs from several international collections, including Belle Madame, Bergmann, Stimulate and Elite Hair. Toftild has a large stock, allowing you to receive your wig quickly.
If we do not have the desired model in stock, you can expect approximately 1–2 weeks’ delivery for standard wigs (both synthetic and human hair). Individually manufactured wigs and made-to-measure hairpieces from a cast have an estimated delivery time of 3–6 months.
You can try on wigs at Toftild in Aalborg, Aarhus and Copenhagen – we offer private consultation rooms and allow plenty of time for your visit.
Together with one of Toftild’s wig stylists, you will find a model that suits you and your needs. When choosing a wig, you are of course welcome to bring a friend or family member for support.
If this is your first visit, you must book our online consultation. You can read more here.
If you are unable to visit one of our stores, Toftild also has retailers throughout most of Denmark – see our retailer list here.
Yes, in many ways it looks like real hair. Manufacturers continuously develop and refine the quality of synthetic hair to achieve the most natural look possible. Synthetic hair feels different from human hair and is not heat-resistant. Synthetic wigs are made in many variations – also with highlights and rooted colors – creating dimension and depth similar to natural human hair.
Visit us in Aalborg, Aarhus or Copenhagen, where we have a large selection of synthetic wigs for you to try.
A standard wig made of synthetic fiber typically lasts 4–6 months with regular use. Repeated friction from, for example, helmets, hats, scarves, cooking steam or clothing with high collars will wear down the fibers and reduce the wig’s lifespan.
We do not recommend sleeping in a synthetic wig, as this causes unnecessary wear. We advise using appropriate care products to maintain the fibers. After a few months of use, the wig may begin to frizz and tangle, and the hairstyle may lose volume and bounce. We then recommend booking a refresh appointment with us, where we can revive the style and refresh the fibers.

There are different ways for a wig to stay in place, and the right solution is highly individual. It depends on the type of wig, your lifestyle and your level of activity.
First and foremost, the wig’s shape must fit your head, and like clothing, wigs are available in sizes XS to XL.
Some wigs have sewn-in anti-slip panels in the cap, providing extra comfort and security. In addition, the circumference of some wigs can be adjusted with a simple strap at the nape.
It is also possible to secure the wig with double-sided wig tape if you need it to stay extra firmly in place.
Others choose a solution where the wig is glued on 24/7. With this option, you come to us for regular service appointments to have it removed and reapplied. This solution is only available for certain types of wigs.

We recommend that you follow Toftild’s care guides and the instructions from your wig stylist.
Yes. Both human hair and synthetic wigs can tolerate water and rainwater, but avoid chlorinated water.
Synthetic wigs
Synthetic wigs can withstand both rain and tap water. You should avoid chlorinated water to prevent discoloration. When washing the wig, use only cold to lukewarm water with products developed specifically for cold-water washing. Read our care guide for synthetic wigs.
Human hair wigs
Human hair wigs tolerate both rain and water. Swimming in chlorinated water can dry out the hair and cause discoloration. If you choose to swim in chlorinated water while wearing a wig or toupee, protect the hair as much as possible (for example, tie it up in a bun and rinse thoroughly afterward) and follow up with suitable care products and possibly a color treatment to refresh the color. Read our care guide for human hair wigs.
Toupee
We offer various types of toupee solutions. The best option for you depends entirely on the extent of your hair loss, your lifestyle and your level of activity.
Our Hair for Life by Toftild toupees are made of human hair. We offer a "single-use toupee," which is worn for approximately 4–6 weeks at a time, after which a new one is purchased and fitted. This toupee is attached 24/7 with skin adhesive and is the thinnest and finest on the market.
We also offer polyurethane and lace base toupees that can be reused multiple times. They can be attached with skin adhesive or tape and may also be worn 24/7 for a period.
The cost depends on the type of base, frequency of replacement and your individual needs. Please contact us at support@toftild.com for details and pricing.
At Toftild, we offer different types of toupee solutions. Some require monthly service visits with us, while others using tape or clips are more suitable for home use.
Hair for Life by Toftild is attached with skin adhesive and requires service approximately once a month. A service treatment at Toftild (or a retailer) includes cleaning of the toupee and scalp and fitting of a new hairpiece.
The durability of the hairpiece depends on several factors, including the type of toupee, how well it is maintained, sweat production, use of hats/work helmets, headsets, etc.:
• Hair for Life toupee (lace or polyurethane base): durability approximately 3–4 months.
• Hair for Life toupee (thin polyurethane base): durability approximately 4–6 weeks.
If this is your first visit, you must first complete an online consultation. Based on your photos, we assess which solution suits you best. The next step is an in-person consultation where you and a stylist will discuss possible solutions and perform an adhesive test if you want it glued on.
We carry a wide selection of toupees in various models and more than 60 standard colors, which means you can receive new hair quickly. Most men can use a standard toupee, but we also create custom-designed hairpieces made-to-measure from a cast. Custom-made solutions have a delivery time of 3–4 months.
The treatment itself takes only 1–2 hours, is easy and painless, and you leave with hair on your head.
Depending on the type of toupee you choose, it can be glued on. A glued-on toupee stays attached 24/7, and with this solution you come in for service every 4–6 weeks to have it removed. If it is a single-use toupee, a new one is applied. If it is a polyurethane-base toupee that can be reused, it will be cleaned, washed and reattached.
Hair for Life by Toftild® is a flexible hair system where you pay for the number of hairpieces and stylist visits you need. You can choose between a single-use toupee or a toupee with a lace or polyurethane base. The hair is attached to the scalp with skin adhesive for a period at a time, typically 4 weeks.
During service, the hairpiece is removed, cleaned, washed, reattached and styled. With Hair for Life by Toftild®, you can sleep with your hair, swim, exercise and engage in other physically demanding activities. The only time you are without hair is during your monthly appointment with us or one of our Hair for Life retailers.
When using Hair for Life by Toftild®, you will need service every 4–6 weeks.
New toupee
When fitting a new toupee, both the hairpiece and your own hair are trimmed to achieve a seamless and natural integration. The hair is styled, and you are informed about care and maintenance.
Service appointment
Hair for Life toupees require service approximately once a month. During the appointment, the toupee is removed and the scalp is cleansed of adhesive and tape. The scalp is exfoliated and prepared for reattachment. The toupee is cleaned and washed before being reattached, trimmed and styled.
The price of a Hair for Life toupee is indicative, as it depends on how often you need a new toupee and how frequently you require service appointments.
Toftild recommends Hair for Life service at least once a month, where the hair is cleaned, reattached, trimmed and styled. The durability of the hairpiece depends on the type of toupee you choose and how well you maintain it.

Yes, you can bathe, swim and be physically active with our Hair for Life toupees. There are certain precautions to consider, as the adhesive bond is affected by water and sweat. If you lead an active lifestyle and sweat a lot, you may need service more frequently. We generally recommend Hair for Life service once a month, but this varies according to individual needs and lifestyle.
Good to know...
When washing your hair or bathing with a glued-on toupee, be aware that water affects the adhesive bond. Until the adhesive settles and cures again, we recommend not pulling on the hairpiece. After bathing, gently press out excess water with a towel and carefully press the hairpiece back into place. You may use a hairdryer if needed. Then style as usual.
Yes, it does.
At Toftild, we always strive to create beautiful, integrated hair solutions that look natural in terms of density, base and hairline. We have many years of experience designing and creating hairpieces for both men and women.
No, it is painless to have a toupee fitted. It can almost be compared to a regular hairdresser visit.
Yes, you can absolutely use wax and other styling products in a human hair toupee. We recommend water-based styling products that do not affect the adhesive. Feel free to speak with your Toftild stylist about suitable products.
Never use silicone- or oil-based products on the scalp, as they will dissolve the adhesive bond.
You can see all our products for human hair toupees here and synthetic toupees here.
To begin with, we would like you to send us an email with 4 photos of your hair loss: one from each side, one from the front and one from above. Then we can assess which solution would be optimal for you.
The next step is a consultation with one of our stylists. The stylist will explain the different solutions we offer and what would suit you, your lifestyle and your level of activity.
Hair for Life toupees are glued on. If you have too much hair, it can create challenges for the adhesive to bond properly to the skin. Toftild offers many different solutions, and we can advise you on an alternative option tailored specifically to you.
If you have receding temples but otherwise normal hair on top, unfortunately we cannot attach hairpieces only at the temples.
If you have thinning hair on top but normal hair on the sides or a bald spot (crown), we can certainly help you.
