Can I sleep, swim and exercise with a toupee?

Yes, you can absolutely sleep with a toupee on, and you can also exercise and swim. When you get a toupee from Toftild, it is either bonded with adhesive or attached using toupee tape, and in some cases a combination of both. This ensures that the toupee stays securely in place and can withstand most activities. If you are very active, sweat a lot or swim frequently, we will always recommend a stronger adhesive or tape.

You can sleep safely with a toupee

For many, it’s a freedom to keep their hair on at night. You can absolutely sleep with your toupee. However, you should be aware that wear and tear will occur as the hair system rubs against your pillow. We learn a great deal from our customers, and we know that if you sleep with your toupee on, you will typically need one additional toupee per year compared to if you remove it at night.

It’s important to remember that at Toftild, we provide individual solutions. We deliver a product tailored specifically to you. Therefore, how often you need servicing, change your tape, or replace your hair will vary individually.

Your hair is individual – and so is its durability.

Can I swim with my toupee?

Yes, you can definitely swim with your toupee.

Whether your toupee is attached with tape or adhesive, you have full freedom to go for a swim. You simply need to remember to give it extra care. When swimming in salt water or chlorinated water, the hair tends to tangle. This happens because salt and chlorine strip away natural oils, dry out and lighten the hair strands. To maintain the quality and extend the lifespan of your toupee, it is very important to provide extra care.

We recommend caring for it with Botea Color Protect Shampoo, Botea Color Protect Conditioner and Botea Color Protect Spray. These products contain both UVA and UVB protection.

With these products, you get both extra care and sun protection. It’s important to use all three products for optimal care. If your toupee is attached with tape and you handle the maintenance yourself, it can be an advantage to remove the hair when sunbathing to protect it as much as possible. Prefer to keep it on? We always recommend choosing a stronger tape that is suitable for use in water. Here, we recommend Extenda Bond Minis, which are ideal for mesh and poly bases, whereas Duo Tac Tape, which has the same adhesive strength, is easier to remove from a poly base.

It can be helpful to always have a comb or hairbrush on hand when swimming or exercising – that way it won’t end up in knots.

Going on a long holiday and your solution is bonded with adhesive? We can discuss a tape solution if you wish to remove the hair during your holiday. This gives you greater flexibility, as you can handle the maintenance yourself – and won’t need to see us as often.

Can I work out with a toupee?

If you exercise frequently, compete in triathlons, or simply tend to sweat a lot from your scalp – you can absolutely use a toupee from Toftild. When you come for a consultation at Toftild, it’s important that you tell us about your needs. That way, we can find a solution that suits you perfectly. If you are very active, it’s essential that we choose the right products when attaching your toupee. If you service your hair system yourself, it is of course also necessary to choose the right adhesive or tape. The bonding strength of adhesives is affected by water and sweat, and the same applies to toupee tape. We recommend Extenda Bond Minis due to their strong durability. If your toupee is attached with adhesive, we recommend using GhostBond XL, as this adhesive is developed to withstand extreme perspiration.
