Eigil, the Scout Badge and Three Hair Donations
Some stories touch you right in the heart. Not because they are dramatic, but because they are real. Eigil’s story is one of them.
Eigil is 14 years old and a scout. And he has donated his hair – not once, not twice, but three times – to Toftild’s hair donation project Love is in the Hair®. His most recent hair donation was in 2025. This time, something very special followed his donation: a scout badge he helped develop himself. A badge that isn’t about skills or endurance – but about doing something good for others.
After receiving this very special hair donation, we set out to find brave Eigil. We found him and invited him and his parents to Aalborg to hear more about his remarkable story. Watch the interview at the bottom of the page.
A Thought Born from Love
When Eigil donated his hair for the first time, he was just eight years old. The inspiration came from someone very close to him.
“It was my aunt. She got cancer and went through chemotherapy, where she lost all her hair. I visited her, and you could see that it was all gone.”
It made an impression. Not in a way that left him feeling helpless – but in a way that made him want to do something.
“Then I started talking with my parents about how I could help people like her. And that’s when I was told you can donate your hair.”
Since then, hair donation has become a regular part of Eigil’s life. His first hair donation was in July 2020, then in August 2022, and most recently in September 2025. His hair grows quickly – but more importantly, his willingness to give has never faded.
Three Hair Donations in Six Years – and More to Come
In six years, Eigil has donated his hair three times. Each time to Toftild’s hair donation project, Love is in the Hair®. He has grown his hair long, cut it very short – and grown it out again. Not as a project for attention, but as something completely natural. For Eigil, it is not a question of if he will donate again, but when.
A Scout Badge the World Was Missing
When Eigil was about to donate his hair for the third time, a new idea emerged. He had been looking at scout badges for a long time – and something struck him.
“I thought: does a badge like that even exist? I couldn’t find one. So I figured I could start making it.”
Many scout badges are about skills, endurance, or personal challenges. But there were hardly any about doing something for others. So Eigil decided to change that.
A Family Project – Across Borders
The design of the scout badge became a shared family project. Eigil’s aunt, who lives in the United States and works as a painter, helped turn the idea into a visual badge. She created several sketches for the family to choose from. The result was the “Donate Hair” scout badge – a badge built on an honor principle.
“It’s an honor program. You’ve done it – and then you receive the badge.”
No control. No proof required. Just trust.
The badge was added to Mærkelex – a platform where scouts from all over the country find and share scout badges. That made the project nationwide. Eigil and his family started by ordering 25 badges. Almost all of them have been sold.
The demand has been greater than expected. They have also received inquiries from scouts who had previously donated their hair – not because of the badge, but out of kindness.
More Than Hair – It’s About Giving

Eigil is living proof that you don’t have to be an adult to make a difference. And that one action – repeated again and again – can inspire far more people than you might ever imagine.
