Well… It Grows Back Again.
Iben is 8 years old. And in January 2026, she chose to donate her hair for the third time.
There are certain sentences that go straight to your heart. The other day, Iben said – quite naturally:
“You never know if I might need someone to give me hair one day.”
It Started with Big Sister
The story began a few years ago when Iben’s big sister, Naja, heard about my friend’s daughter, who had leukemia as a child and lost all her hair during treatment.
It made a deep impression on Naja. So deep that she decided to donate her hair.
And that was the beginning of something we never imagined would grow so much.
First and Second Donation
In 2021, Iben donated her hair for the first time – together with Naja.
It wasn’t something she was persuaded to do. Quite the opposite. She was completely sure. She wanted to give something back.
When she chose to do it again in 2023, it was clear that it wasn’t just a sweet gesture. It had become her own decision. Something she had taken ownership of. Something she felt was important.
Third Donation – January 2026
And then, here in January 2026, Iben donated her hair for the third time.
When the hairdresser was about to cut it, she was very attentive and said that Iben must not get upset.
But Iben simply looked at her and said:
“Well… it grows back again.”
And that’s how she has felt the whole way through.
She hasn’t regretted it for a single second. She loves her short hair – and she has actually become so comfortable with it that she is now fully determined to learn how to maintain it herself.
Big Thoughts from a Little Girl
We’ve had many conversations at home about donating – both hair and organs.
Both her father and I are registered organ donors, and we have always talked about how, at some point in life, we may need help.
And if you want to be able to receive when you need it – then you must also give when you can.
For us, it’s compassion.
And it’s something we want to teach our children.
Iben knows she is making a difference.
And she knows that somewhere, someone will be happy for what she has given.
She is a little girl with a strong will – and when she sets her mind to something, she follows through.
