We carry synthetic wigs, human hair wigs and custom-made wigs tailored to your specifications. The price depends on the type of hair, construction, length and styling requirements.

The hair must not have been chemically treated, meaning no bleaching or perming. If the hair has been chemically treated, it is often too inelastic and porous to be used in wig production, because the individual cuticle layers are no longer intact.

Colored hair can be used if it has been dyed with ammonia-free color and with a 1% developer. Please ask your hairdresser if you are unsure.

If your color, bleaching, or perm has grown out, the hair can still be used.

If you have handed in your hair at one of our three salons, you will receive a certificate.

If you send the hair to us, you must print a certificate yourself. You can find the certificate here.

At Toftild Hair Donation, we are often asked whether you can donate your hair after receiving chemotherapy.

There is no problem with that; you can absolutely donate your hair even if you have undergone chemotherapy.

The hair that has grown back after your chemotherapy treatment is “new hair” and can certainly be used for a good and meaningful purpose.

If you received chemotherapy and still kept your hair during treatment, your hair can also be used as donor hair to benefit someone in the same situation as you. Hair may feel more porous and dry during chemotherapy, but this does not mean it is damaged or cannot be used as donor hair for the production of a wig or toupee.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer haircuts for donations at Toftild, as we receive far more inquiries than we can accommodate. We are not a traditional hair salon; we dedicate all our time to clients who need wigs and alternative hair solutions, as they have very few other places to turn.

We recommend that you check the list of our Toftild Hair Donation Ambassadors. They are approved salons under the Love is in the Hair® project. You can also visit your own hairdresser to have your hair cut for donation.

We recommend that you explore our Toftild Hair Donation Ambassadors. Here you will find a long list of approved salons. We work closely with them regarding hair donations.

If you cannot find an ambassador near you, you can use your own hairdresser. Tell them that you wish to donate your cut hair. You are welcome to refer them to our guide "How to Cut Hair for Donation". Some hairdressers offer a special price for hair donations, and some host events where they cut hair free of charge. Please ask your own hairdresser for details.

The hair should be secured with elastics in several small ponytails. Place the elastic slightly below where the hair will be cut to ensure the ponytail is firmly secured. Make sure the elastics are tight.

Gather the small ponytails together with another elastic around the bundle to ensure the hair donation does not fall apart. If the hair is long, it is a very good idea to place an elastic at the bottom as well. Alternatively, the hair can be braided.

We are often asked this question, and we completely understand why. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a wig from a single ponytail. During sorting, up to 50% of the hair is discarded, as many strands are too short. It takes 4–6 unsorted donated ponytails to make a full wig. Furthermore, we cannot track an individual ponytail throughout the production process. However, the discarded hair (if it is not too short – approx. 15 cm) can be used to produce wigs with short hairstyles or toupees.

On average, 4–6 unsorted hair donations are needed to make a full wig – depending on how thick and long the donated hair is.

Yes, ALL natural hair colors can be used – blonde, dark, red, and grey – we have no preferences. The hair must simply not be chemically dyed.

If you donate curly hair, the length should be measured by stretching the hair straight to ensure it is long enough – minimum 30 cm.

No, hair cannot become too old. All hair can be used as a hair donation — even hair that has been stored for many years.
Older hair is often drier, but this is taken into account during the quality sorting of the hair structure.

No, unfortunately it is not possible to track your own hair donation "from ponytail to wig", as the donated hair is sorted by color, length, and hair structure and then blended together for further processing. Since 4–6 unsorted ponytails are used to manufacture a single wig, the hair is mixed during production.

Your hair donation is used to produce wigs and alternative hair solutions for people affected by illness-related and involuntary hair loss. If we are unable to use all the hair ourselves, we auction off the surplus hair. The full amount raised is donated to cancer charities in Denmark. Toftild supports, among others, Danish Hospital Clowns, the Danish Cancer Society, the Children’s Cancer Foundation, Look Good Feel Better, and Team Rynkeby.

Since 2017, Toftild has supported the annual Knæk Cancer campaign under the name Love is in the Hair®, contributing a total of just over DKK 860,000.

The wigs are for both children and adults affected by cancer or autoimmune diseases, most often alopecia.

We cannot guarantee that, for example, it is a child with cancer who receives your specific hair donation, as we are not able to track each individual donation. However, we can guarantee that the hair is used to produce wigs for people suffering from permanent or temporary hair loss due to illness.

No, unfortunately it is not possible to meet the person who receives a wig made with your hair donation. This is primarily because hair from 4–6 donors is used in a single wig.
Those who receive wigs made from donated hair do not always wish to speak publicly about it, and we respect that and do not make it a condition. However, we continuously try to share photos and tell the stories of recipients.

Our response time for hair donations sent by mail can be 1–3 weeks. We process hair donations approximately every two weeks and reply to everyone who has included an email address. Please remember that postal delivery can take up to 5 days.

If you send the hair to Toftild, it must be sent directly to Toftild in Aalborg with home delivery — we do NOT collect parcels from parcel shops.

You are very welcome to include photos and a greeting with your hair donation that we may use in Toftild’s marketing. However, we cannot guarantee that all photos will be published. If you wish to remain anonymous, we of course respect that.
