Do You Know Toftild’s Hair Donation Project – Love is in the Hair?

Since 2015, Toftild has received hair donations from across the country. It started as a small project with only a few ponytails per month, but it has since grown steadily and become the country’s first and largest hair donation project.

Approx. 550 Ponytails per Month

On average, Toftild receives 550 ponytails and braids per month (figures from 2023), which is three times the number of hair donations we received before COVID.

It is especially young girls aged 10–15 who are incredibly generous in donating their beautiful long locks.

Our requirements for donated hair are that it must be untreated, as hair becomes porous after chemical treatments such as coloring or perming. There is also a length requirement of at least 30 cm (approx. 12 inches), as some length is lost in the process of hand-tying the wig.

Your Hair Creates Value

Every year, we calculate how much hair has been donated to Love is in the Hair®. We measure both the total quantity of hair in kilograms and its monetary value. The value of the hair is calculated as a financial amount, which is donated in full to charitable causes.

For many years, we have donated the amount to the Danish Cancer Society through the “Knæk Cancer” campaign. Including the 2022 contribution of DKK 140,000 (approx. $20,000), we have donated a total of DKK 800,000 (approx. $115,000) to the campaign.

In 2023, we chose to support several good causes. We donated DKK 25,000 (approx. $3,600) to Knæk Cancer and DKK 12,500 (approx. $1,800) respectively to Danish Hospital Clowns and the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Altogether, we have donated DKK 850,000 (approx. $123,000) to charitable causes!

That is a lot of hair and a lot of money, in our opinion. We can only do this thanks to all you wonderful hair donors who let your hair grow and have it cut in support of a good cause.

The collected hair is continuously sent for production of wigs at our partner factories abroad that manufacture the wigs for us.

When you donate your hair to Love is in the Hair®, you help in two ways:

  1. Your hair is used to make wigs for those who miss their own hair
  2. Your hair helps raise funds for cancer support and other charitable causes.

Your Contribution Makes a Big Difference

Your hair donation is an incredibly important and very personal contribution. It means the world to people who have lost their own hair to have the opportunity to receive a wig made from real human hair. And especially when it is made from donated hair given with great love. At Toftild, we know how meaningful it is to offer wigs made from donated hair, also because they are 100% natural, highly durable, and wonderful to wear. We believe that people who have lost their own hair deserve that.

A portion of the hair is used by Toftild to create wigs especially for children and young people affected by cancer, alopecia, or other conditions that cause hair loss. Your hair donation therefore means even more to children and young people in particular.

If you choose to donate your hair to Love is in the Hair® by Toftild, we would be thrilled if you tag us @toftildhardonation and use the hashtags #toftildhårdonation and #toftildloveisinthehair. Together, we can spread the message and inspire others to join.

Every single strand counts!

“If you have enough of what others are missing, pass it on – it makes a difference.” ❤️
